Site Visit: KB

I just returned from a site visit to a fellow volunteer's home. These visits are helpful in so many ways. First, you have a chance to speak REAL English for the first time in weeks. Second, and most importantly, you are able to see the projects happening in your friend's village. KB (short for Kathryn) has started a food program that is serving students food in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Some students are living at the school and take all three meals, while others take lunch only. She had a kitchen built through donations from home and the school has organized a fee for the students. A success! I took some photos of tobacco as it doesn't grow in my area. Most people in her village grow only maize (corn) and tobacco. Pictured here are her neighbors stringing up the tobacco to dry. The leaves are then bundled together for sales. Tobacco is a major cash crop in Malawi!
