Japan vs. America
We organized a basketball game with some Japanese volunteers to take place on the weekend in Lilongwe. All Peace Corps volunteers were pumped up and anxious to test our rusty skills! We showed up early and got in plenty of lay up and jump shot drills and did some strategizing. Clearly with our 6ft. 7" center we had an advantage; however, don't think the Japanese players came without their own schemes..clever guys. They wanted to play full court and run us into exhaustion..assuming we are over-weight, "super-size-me" Americans. To their disappointment, we were winded but it didn't deflate our ambition and desire to win! I held my own scoring mostly from inside (I guarded the small girl in the front with the ball who had excellent ball handling skills-solid!). We played a third game mixing teams that was much less stressful and more fun! I proposed the next gathering should be ping-pong and I am sure you can predict that outcome!!!
