Thanks again to all of those who contributed to the "Mphatso Surgery Fund." I wanted to let everyone know that he has indeed received his surgery and is currently in the hospital recovering. He will be there for a week or more. I know he wants to thank everyone when he is well enough but I did want to share the gratitude I received from his mother. Mphatso lives with his mother only and she is a very strong, humble, and serene woman. I went over to his home a few days before his journey to Blantyre (The Cure International Hospital) and his mother bent down, as she always does, to greet me, "Moni Amayi, Mwaswera Bwanji" (Hello Madam, good afternoon/evening). She continued in Chichewa and I was grasping a few words here and there such as "Ndatokoza" (I am grateful), and when she finished, Mphatso told me in English: She said, "Thank you for what you have done. God will bless you and your relatives in America. I pray God replaces all the money that was given to help Mphatso." It was very moving and humbling to me to see this strong woman, so devout to her family feeling so grateful for this gift their family has received from strangers. Im not a mother but I felt connected to a space in her heart which is devouted to taking care of and protecting her son. I wish I could share this experience to all of you who sacrificed yourselves to help someone you don't know. I will continue to update you on his progress! When he left he said, "I'm going to get my cure."
